Project 5- Chess Piece

The objective for Project 5 was to use photogrammetry in order to create a 3D mesh for a chess piece. My subject was person from the Dept of Chemistry and Biochemistry. In order to create the 3D mesh, I took ~173 photos using my android phone camera.

The issues:

  • Photographing in classroom resulted in mesh errors due to reflective whiteboard.
  • Legs from original mesh were extremely thin and needed to be inflated in Meshmixer in order to be a viable 3D print.
  • “Making solid” resulted in strange de-detailing of the figure.
  • Head needed reshaping/replacing. Original mesh had a big blob on the back.
