Andi’s Project 2

For this project we were asked to design an everyday household object and decorate it with a Celtic knot. I decided to design a coaster, which you can download here, through Sketchfab below, or on Thingiverse.

The knot I used on the coaster is shown below. Note that it is alternating, meaning that the knot never goes over itself for two consecutive crossings or under itself for two consecutive crossings. This makes the crossing number, or number of times the knot crosses itself, easy to compute; it has a crossing number of 13 – 3 crosses in each of the 4 quadrants of the knot and one in the middle.

Below is the final print. You can now enjoy a hot beverage without worrying about damaging your desk.
